Representative Reference Sources for Health & Exercise Science

This index presents information on important chemicals, drugs, and biological substances.

 

The Merck Manual                                                                          R 616 M555 2006

Contains information on diseases, disorders, and their symptoms, meant to assist those in the medical field diagnosis and treat patients.

 

Physician’s Desk Reference                                                         R 615.1 P578 2005

PDR provides Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drug labeling in addition to prescription information from drug manufacturers; PDR includes information on some drugs marketed, but not approved by the FDA.

This database is an index of reviews on nutrition.

 

Alt HealthWatch

Focuses on complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care and wellness. It contains the full text for more than 180 international journals and reports, along with hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research and book excerpts.

 

Wiley InterScience (Formerly Blackwell Synergy)

You can either browse journals group by specific subject area, like Medical, Veterinary, and Health Science, or use the advanced search option to find articles covering a specific topic.

CINAHL

This database indexes more than 1,800 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health.

 

Health Source:  Nursing/Academic Edition

This database provides more than 550 scholarly full text journals, including nearly 450 peer-reviewed journals focusing on many medical disciplines; it also includes abstracts and indexing for nearly 850 journals in the Health field.

 

MEDLINE via PubMed

Provides access to citations covering all areas of medicine, including dentistry and nursing.

 

OMNIFILE/MEGA

OmniFile provides citations, abstracts and full text from scholarly journals and magazines.  Choose the General Science (GS) database for articles in health & exercise science.

 

SPORTDiscus

The most comprehensive database in Sports and Exercise Science, it also covers a number of related fields, like public health, nutrition, physical therapy, and recreation.  Both scholarly and general interest publications are indexed.
