Word process and spreadsheet files can be uploaded to Moodle, but the student must also have matching software installed on their computer to view it. If you have files in these formats you wish to use, you can convert them to PDF. Do so by right clicking on the file and choose “Convert to Adobe PDF”. Converting to a PDF file assures that all students will have access with a free Adobe Reader download.
To upload a file
1. Log into BC Moodle using your regular Windows login.
2. Select the course you want to upload a file to.
3. On the homepage of your course click on “turn editing on” in the upper right corner.
4. Under the course outline in the center of the page, choose the date or topic that you would like to add the resource to, and select “link to a file or website” from the “Add a Resource” drop down box under that topic
5. This leads you to the “adding a new resources” page. Enter the name you would like displayed for the file.
6. Scroll down the page until you see the “Choose or Upload a file” button, and click on it.
7. To upload a new file, hit the “upload a file” button and then click on the “browse” button to find it on your hard drive, profile, thumbdrive, etc.
8. Once you’ve located the file, choose the file and click the “open” button
9. Hit the “upload this file” button on the resulting page.
10. Once it has been uploaded successfully, click on the “choose” link beside the file you just added.
11. You should be back to the “adding a new resources page.” The file name will appear in the box above the “Choose or Upload a file” button. Scroll to the bottom of this page, and hit the “Save and return to course” button
12. Now your resource should appear on the course’s outline and under the “resources” link in the Activities block on the left of the screen.
13. Scroll to the top of the page, and click the “turn editing off” button on the top right. This will take you back to the courses normal view.
To delete a file
You have two options when deleting a file. You can either delete it from the course’s outline, leaving it in your courses’ file list to add back to the outline at a later date. Or you can delete it from the file list, removing it completely from your course.
Deleting from the course outline
1. On the homepage of your course click on “turn editing on” in the upper right corner.
2. Under the course’s outline, click on the”x” to the right of the file you wish to delete.
3. Click “ok” from the resulting dialog box, and your file will no longer appear under that week or topic.
4. Scroll to the top of the page and click on the “turn editing off” button to return the page back to its normal view.
Deleting the file completely from Moodle
1. To remove the file from Moodle completely, you need to remove the file from the course’s outline (the first three steps above).
2. Next, scroll down to the “Administrative” block and click on the “files” link.
3. Once on the “files” page, check the box by the one you wish to delete.
4. Select “Delete completely” from the “With Chosen File” drop down box.
5. Click the “Yes” button below the question “Are you sure you want to delete these files?”
6. The file should now be removed from the “file” page listing.
7. Click on the course’s name at the bottom of this page to take you back to the courses’ main page and click on the “Turn editing off” button to return you back to the page’s normal view.
